15110. Maritime Workforce Advisory Committee

(a) Establishment

There is established a National Maritime Workforce Advisory Committee (in this section referred to as the Committee ).

(b) Function

The Committee shall advise the Secretary on matters relating to the skills, training, and numbers of workers necessary to maintain the United States maritime industrial base workforce, including the merchant marine, shipyards, and associated activities.

(c) Membership

(1) In general

The Committee shall consist of not more than 25 members appointed by the Secretary in accordance with this section and section 15109 of this chapter.

(2) Expertise

Each member of the Committee shall have particular expertise, knowledge, and experience in matters relating to the function of the Committee.

(3) Representation

At least 1 member of the Committee shall represent 1 of the following:

(A)

Ocean Common Carriers.

(B)

State Maritime Academies.

(C)

Centers of excellence designated under section 54101.

(D)

Unlicensed Merchant Mariner Labor Unions.

(E)

Licensed Merchant Mariner Labor Unions.

(F)

Shipyard Labor Unions.

(G)

Shipyards.

(H)

Vessel design and construction entities.

(I)

Post-Secondary Education Vocational Training.
